Working in Canada

Working in Canada while you study is a great way to earn extra money and to gain valuable work international work experience.  In order to work legally you must be studying at a public college or university and have a valid work permit.

While you study, you can work part time on-campus at publicly funded colleges and universities in Canada if you have a valid study permit.

You can also work part time off-campus at some publicly funded colleges and universities for up to 20 hours per week if you maintain satisfactory academic results and have a valid work permit.

For some academic programs, work experience is part of the curriculum. Foreign students who wish to participate in a co-op or internship program must apply for a work permit as well as a study permit.

We always try to recommend suitable programs that have internship components, especially paid internships. Aside from lower tuition fees, the availability of internship programs to foreign students has made Canada an attractive study destinations for students from all over the world.

There are various types of internships; paid, unpaid and many more. Please click on the following link to learn more about these internships and their benefits: click here.

After you graduate, you may participate in the Post-Graduation Work Permit program and work full time in Canada. The Post-Graduation Work Permit Program allows students who have graduated from a participating Canadian post-secondary institution to gain valuable Canadian work experience.

There has been a recent change in the program.  Now, upon graduation, foreign students may stay for up to three years in Canada!
